Bairdi Tanner Crab are a species of snow crab. The scientific name is Chionoecetes Bairdi and is closely related to the snow crab commonly seen for purchase called Chionoecetes opilio. The Species of Bairdi Tanner crab is larger than the commonly seen opilio or snow crab. Bairdi Tanner crab fishing was shut down for almost 40 years after the crab were overfished. In the past couple years Kodiak, Alaska has had a restrictive season for Bairdi Tanner crab making it possible to have a season over the recent years.
